The Kansas City Southern operates the 'Meridian Speedway', a busy 320 mile long rail corridor from Shreveport, Louisiana to Meridian, Mississippi. Volume One covers Louisiana from Shreveport to the Mississippi River at Vicksburg. KCS acquired this route in 1993 from MidSouth Rail and is former Illinois Central trackage. The Meridian Speedway operates as a joint venture with the Norfolk Southern (a 30% owner) and is used as a vital link to transport intermodal, manifest, bulk commodities and energy trains across their systems. Today it? part of the shortest transcontinental railroad in the southern USA, as it connects states in the Southeast to the Southwest. KCS power dominates the action but you?l also see trains of the NS, UP, BNSF along with shortlines Louisiana and North West and the Arkansas Louisiana & Mississippi Railroads.
